INDIAN FOR BUKIT SEMAMBU SEAT

By Sk English News
Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim said the Pakatan Rakyat would most probably field an Indian candidate, preferably a local, for the Bukit Selambau seat in Kedah vacated by V Arumugam, who resigned a day ago, citing harrassment by political enemies and his own personal problems.
He also said he would leave it to PAS to decide and announce the candidate for the Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat in Perak, also vacated yesterday, following the sudden death of Roslan Shaharum, who suffered a heart attack yesterday.
“Most probably we will also choose an Indian candidate for Bukit Selambau,” Anwar said.
The three-member Pakatan coalition of KeADILan, DAP and PAS is also expected to allocate the seat to KeADILan since Arumugam was from the party.
A retired mechanic with the Royal Malaysian Air Force, the 55-year old Arumugam had contested the Bukit Selambau seat as an Independent, defeating S Krishnan from Barisan Nasional with a majority of 2,362 votes.
Arumugam then joined PKR and was appointed state executive councillor in charge of domestic trade and consumer affairs, Siamese and Indian affairs, unity and plantation workers.
Said Anwar: “On behalf of KeADILan, I wish to extend my utmost thanks to saudara Arumugam for his contribution and service to the party, state and nation.”EC to come under the microscope againThe charismatic opposition leader too could not resist taking a dig at Malaysia’s Election Commission, whose credibility and independence has been tarnished by its refusal to call by-elections in two Perak state constituencies last week.
The EC’s disraceful decision in disputing the resignations of the Behrang and Changkat Jering assemblymen was condemned nationwide, and led to the ongoing political and constitutional crisis in the north-eastern state.
“That is, if the Election Commission can confirm Arumugam’s resignation. We are worried in case it is said that there is no resignation letter. But I have seen the letter myself,” he added.
